October is National Safe Work Month—a time to commit to building a safe and healthy workplace.

During October each year, workers and employers across Australia commit to safe and healthy workplaces for all.

Being healthy and safe means being free from physical and psychological harm. No job should be unsafe and no death or injury is acceptable. A safe and healthy workplace benefits everyone.

The theme for National Safe Work Month this year is think safe. work safe. be safe.

This October think safe. work safe. be safe. at your workplace by planning and implementing work health and safety procedures.

Think safe—is the first step to thinking about work health and safety, which covers the planning and forethought that Persons Conducting a Business or Undertaking (PCBUs) (such as employers and small business owners) must do to identify risks and maintain healthy and safe workplaces.

Work safe—is about implementing work health and safety measures to manage risks including the practical steps you can take to reduce risk and avoid workplace incidents.

Be safe—considers the ongoing process of managing and monitoring work health and safety risks – it is not a one off.

At TEN, we take safety seriously but in order to encourage positive participation and better engagement we are using some initiatives to put safety at the forefront of everyones mind.

Our health and safety vision is: "We all go home from work without injury or illness".

One of the ideas we have adopted is a company coffee and chat. The idea behind this is to encourage every member of staff to get involved and to look at their work environment and assess the potential dangers and risks.

We also encourage staff to walk through the company and check for hazards. This is great because we sometimes do not see the potential dangers in our own workspace. Over the coming weeks we will have visual tests and some staff participation in presenting safety cases.
